Some blurbs on Unfinished Dreams:
Kèk ekrito sou Rèv San Bout:
“Reading Patrick Sylvain is always an incredible experience. Reading him in this bilingual edition brings twice as much pleasure. Unfinished Dreams /Rèv San Bout examines what it means to be both home bound and a wanderer, carrying the burden of language and dreams. This book is Patrick Sylvain, writing at his multifaceted, multitalented, and multilingual best.”
“Li zèv Patrick Sylvain se toujou yon eksperyans enkwayab. Li kreyasyon li nan edisyon bileng sa a bay doub plezi adisyonèl. Unfinished Dreams /Rèv San Bout ekzamine fason yon moun kapab an menm tan ap fofile sou wout retounen lakay li epitou li ka aladriv, pandan l’ap pote fado langaj ak rèv li. Liv sa a, nan tout bote li, vrèman prezante ekrito Patrick Sylvain nan yon fason ki milti-fasèt, milti-talan, epi miltilangaj.”
_Edwidge Danticat, Writer and Novelist (ekriven, romansye)
“Patrick Sylvain’s new collection of poems is simultaneously thought-provoking and smile-provoking, reminding the reader not only that emotional and intellectual stimulation are mutually compatible but also that they can be a happy coupling too. Within the collection’s pages, a reader is bound to stumble upon a surprise of similes; an abundant joy of expertly paired juxtapositions; a dazzle of candor; an unceasing generosity of translation. … Sylvain clearly sees and writes like a photographer, and his incisive snapshots of daily life are quite stunning.”
“Nouvo rekèy powèm Patrick Sylvain an provoke alafwa refleksyon epi li chatouye ou, paske li raple lektè a estimilasyon emosyonèl ak entèlektyèl mityèlman konpatib; mentou, yo kapab etabli yon bon maryaj. Nan diferan paj rekèy sa a, yon lektè ap siprizman tonbe sou diferan konparezon; ap twò kontan jwenn yon abondans jikstapozisyon ki byen soude avèk ekspètiz; yon mouvans transparan e dirèk; yon jenerosite ki pa depafini nan tradiksyon an. …Sylvain wè epi ekri tankou yon fotograf, pòtrè li yo sou lavi tou-lè-jou vini avèk yon presizyon ki esplandid.”
_Sandy Alexandre, Associate Professor in Literature at MIT
“Patrick Sylvain’s dream-like book carries every aspect of itself through a territory of imagery, politics, empathy and imagination under the doubled star of Paul Mallarmé and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. …These poems are fragmentary in the best sense—where what’s broken is what’s most whole: at once, a “sword aimed at our walled-streets” and “a shattering/Field of transmission” where we may each at last find one another.”
“Liv onirik (rèv-sanblab) Patrick Sylvain an, pote anndan li chak aspé liv la atravè yon teritwa imaje, politik, enpati ak imajinasyon ki ta chita nan menm kòtòf zetwal Paul Mallarmé ak Gabriel Garcia Marquez. …Powèm sa yo fragmantè nan bon sans mo a, kote sa ki kase se sa ki pi antye: imedyatman, yon “epe pente sou lari nou ki miraye” epi “pou reveye/nan chan levasyon” kote nou kapab finalman jwenn youn lòt.”
